a suburb of the Delhi metropolitan area. It is also a part of the
National Capital Region of Delhi. It is located in Gurgaon District.
BACKGROUND &
HISTORY
Legend has it that Gurgaon is the ancestral village of Guru Dronacharya,
the teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Indian epic Mahabharata.
Gurgaon comes from Guru (from Guru Dronacharya) and Gaon (meaning
village). The village was gifted by the Pandavas and Kauravas to
their Guru (Dronacharya), and was known as Guru ka Gaon (Village
of the Guru), and later Gurgaon.
Although steeped in Hindu Mythology in Gurgaon is one of the most
promising and progressive cities in India. Modern, sleek and extremely
contemporary, Gurgaon’s glass buildings with offices, premium
residential complexes and numerous dazzling malls instantly give
you the impression of an avant-garde city that is still a work in
progress.
